GIVING UP FOR LET / MY OWN EXPERIENCE

LENT

Lent is the 40 days of preparation, reflection and prayer for Easter, when Christian churches celebrate the resurrection of Jesus after his death on the cross. Christians enjoy this time of the year to purify themselves . Many people do abstinence and fasting. Others don't eat meat, alcoholic drinks, coffee, chocolate , sweets or perhaps don't use the internet and so on for 40 days. Each person chooses their best way to live these days.

What I have done for Lent ?

As I have a strong sweet tooth, during these 40 days I decided to challenge myself by giving up sugary treats to help raise money for the Christian Aid charity. I have chosen to not eat sugar because it is what I really love to eat!

I am faithful, so I am aware that I am purifying myself to celebrate Jesus' victory from death. I participated in Lent to feel at least one percent of what Jesus felt in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, before he started his ministry. I have taken this time to do a reflection of my life and to feel closer to God in prayer.

My own experience

I can confidently say that it wasn't easy, but it was essential in my life. I have been blessed and I could be blessing other people's lives by using this time to raise money for those who need support. I will definitely be doing Lent again in 2018, I suggest for everyone to make the same decision. It's a unique experience as after Lent you will not be the same, you will be much better than before!
